Less stuff is the only way forwards

It’s far better to have a few clothes you love and treasure, than many clothes you only like somewhat and wear infrequently (or forget about). This minimizes the waste at the end of the clothes’ life.

I’d even go further: it’s far better to have a few clothes you love and treasure that are not necessarily good for the planet, than only eco-friendly clothes you don’t love much.

That’s because clothing is inherently extractive. Even following “sustainable” practices, making clothes takes a lot of natural resources and human labour. So the biggest way to reduce the impact of clothing on the planet is to buy less and throw away less of it.

That’s my unpopular opinion, at least.
