Where am I?

Welcome! You’re in the home of Cormorant, a research and design project that started with the question:

How do we stop overconsumption?

I love clothes, so I’m using them as a case study. The fashion industry is notoriously hard on the environment. Yet clothes are the source of so much joy and meaning-making. I keep finding myself inspired by new ideas, people in my life, beautiful things, places. And clothes are one of the ways I want to express these sparks of inspiration. Clothes also help me understand myself—as I change, the clothes I wear change with me.

A while ago, I started having trouble finding clothes I liked in stores. So I started making my own. It began with sashiko embroidery and turned into full-on sewing, patternmaking, and fabric dyeing. And as I dove deeper into these crafts—many of which I had never considered as I shopped for clothes—I realized that overconsumption is a symptom of our disconnect from ourselves and the origins of our stuff. So Cormorant’s true guiding question is really:

How can we heal our relationship with ourselves and the natural world?

I’ve been exploring this problem by making clothes. And I’ve been learning a lot. This website is where I gather my findings. Take a look! Explore! There are interesting things hidden away!

I also share videos about this stuff on social media. Follow me there for regular updates.
